Thats a good point Andrew, and I share your perspective. Mobile ought not to be checking your balance - rather it needs imho to be focussed on transactions and immediacy. If a customer is located at Church & Bloor the bank could know that and be surprised at a debit transaction at BayView and Eglinton. There is so much potential from geo, real time, transactions and mobile.

Regarding your comment about Finovate 2009, "mobile is under represented"... that may be the case for this year's conference, but if anything, mobile has been OVER-represented in past Finovate events (2007, 2008). I attended both, and you can only sit through so many [bad] demos of a guy checking his account balance and paying his heating bill through his mobile phone before you want to shoot yourself in the head. It's just not that compelling.

That said, I would love to see something truly innovative in the mobile space (beam me $5, Scotty?). Until someone comes up with it, though, I'll be happy for the dearth of mobile companies at Finovate.
