American Banker redesigns, and adds a ‘Bankers Blog Watch’
American Banker have redesigned their site, and although the main content remains behind a subscription, they have a free trial available. I had anticipated that they might follow the Economist model, with some articles freely available to all, but apparently not. Nice redesign though.
However, I am honoured to have Bankwatch featured in their new blog area, alongside some others, including as Jim, Trey, and a few other well known bloggers. [I guess that makes Trey an honorary banker now]

‘Organised Uncertainty’ | Banks risk aversion driven by organisation
I got to this book thanks to JP.
This paragraph from the summary resonates well.
In short, this important book traces the rise of the managerial concept of risk and the different logics and values which underpin it, showing that it has much less to do with real dangers and opportunities than might be thought, and more to do with organizational accountability and legitimacy.
Banks use risk as a front for too many things, beyond traditional financial risk. But that quote might tell us why … if your job is to manage something, beyond traditional financial risk, such as brand, and channel, your view will be driven by organisational matters, before the ‘right’ thing.

LIFT07 – Bankers can be bloggers too
I used the title mainly to get attention. The sub message was that its not sustainable for Banks to continue with online Banking as a simple automation of services application. They must address the social aspect, and learn how to work with that environment. I used examples of;
- Verity CU
- Wells Fargo
- Vancity
- UFirst CU
As examples of bank disrupters, I focussed on Wesabe, Prosper, Zopa, FYGO, and CircleLending.
